Now when he was in affliction, he implored the Lord his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, and prayed to Him; and He received his entreaty, heard his supplication, and brought him back to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord was God. 2 Chr 33:12-13
Manasseh humbled himself when he was afflicted. It was through affliction that he “…knew the Lord was God”. Somehow, there is often a veil that blinds us such that we do not see our folly, evil & pride, till affliction strikes us. The Psalmist says “It was good that I was afflicted, that I may know the statutes of God.”
We need to be humble, to acknowledge our wrongdoings and seek God’s forgiveness in prayer. That was what Manasseh did and he received God’s mercies. We often read in the scriptures where God says “…return to me and I will return to you.” God is faithful to His word.
