Judges 2:14 – Beware the anger of the LORD….

Judges 2:14 “So the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he gave them over to plunderers, who plundered them. And he sold them into the hand of their surrounding enemies, so that they could no longer withstand their enemies.”

What a frightening judgement! The LORD is angry with Israel. And He displayed His anger by giving them over to their enemies. Why was the LORD angry? Judges 2:11 tells us that “..the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the LORD and served the Baals.” The LORD was provoked to anger by His people.

We need to immediately ask ourselves if we are knowingly or unknowingly committing any sin that will provoke the LORD’s anger. And if there is anything that we need to repent of, let us do so quickly by confessing and praying that we may be forgiven. Don’t let the situation deteriorate into one where the anger of the LORD is kindled against you. Repent before He hands you over to your enemies.

Is there hope of forgiveness for us? Absolutely! But you need to know that forgiveness comes only through Jesus Christ who paid the absolute penalty for the remission of our sins. God laid His wrath (that was meant for us) on Jesus when He was crucified on the Cross. This is God’s way of reconciling us to Himself. We can add nothing to this way of salvation provided by God. We have to simply come to Him with a sincere and contrite heart. This is grace, amazing Grace!
